I recently noticed that a quarter that I had in my wallet sounded different, sort of a hollow clink sound. The year is 1964 and I have found reference to a silver quarter for that year but nothing else. I'm not sure it is silver. It does not appear to have another alloy in in as other quarters (no dark rings, etc). I am wondering if it is made from aluminum. I know that some US coins made in the Phillipines were had aluminum in them. There is not a mint marking on the coin. I would really appreciate any information anyone has about this coin. Thanks!

    Hey there Rhonda,

All quarters 1964 and before were made out of silver, so that is why it sounds different. Its a keeper!

Thanks Dennis. How do I find the value for this coin?

Based on your description, I'm assuming it is well circulated, the value would be approx $1 to $1.25.

Was looking at a 1964 quarter and looking at this site. No picture so I thought I post one and to see if this is an error?

Sorry Slick, no error. Also, you're in the wrong forum. This is "What's it Worth".
