I am not really into coins but I got curious about the 1964 SMS penny since I found one lying around the house. I've read many info about it on the net and your expert comments are most welcome. I found a badly shaped 1989 too.
Welcome to Cointalk Your 64 appears to be a normal business strike with wear and tear, as far as your 89 it appears to be PMD(post mint damage) Not A Mint Error. JMO Dave
All the 1964 SMS coins were from the estate of the former mint director. They were purchased by a dealer and subsequently slabbed in TPG holders. You will not find one in change or lying around the house There must some crappy YouTube video or something out there not telling the whole story. Yes, there are 1964SMS and yes, they are rare, but you're not not going to find them in change. I wish these people would quit spreading misinformation just to get clicks on YouTube. Hope this helps
