1964 peace dollar listed in the 1965 Red Book?

  1. Does anyone have a copy of the 1965 Red Book and does it have any information about the 1964 peace dollar?

Nothing about 1964 Peace Dollars in the 1965 (18th) edition of the Red Book.

Nothing in the 17th or 19th editions either, btw.

I can further add that the introductory section of the book says nothing about the 1965 act to remove silver from coinage. Pretty sure the book went to press too early in 1964 to report on that. There is a paragraph about it in the 1982 edition, the next one I have.

The 1965 edition DOES list the 1964 Kennedy half.

That paragraph was added in the 20th edition 1967.

That would make me think that if there ever had been anything about the 1964 dollars, it would've been in the 1966 or 1967 edition.

Nothing about 1964 Peace dollars in the 1966 (19th) edition as noted above. Also, nothing in the 1967 (20th) edition.

I don't own any of these books. They're available on the internet archive for free. Same with the Blue Book thread.

    Bazinga!

According to this, they were struck in May 1965. So the 1965 Redbook wouldn't have any info, since it would have been sent to the presses in late 1964.

More likely the 1964 book was sent to the presses late in 1963 - Amazon shows a publication date of January 1, 1964.

Right, but he was asking about the 1965 book.

Same thing, January 1, 1965 which is months before the legislation was passed.

You should read the link I posted on this subject. It’s very informative on the 1964-D Peace Dollar.

@Pickin and Grinin posted it as well in the 2nd post - that's where I got my info about the May 1965 mintage date.
