I just found this while I was cleaning up the grounds at the dragstrip. I thought it was a bottle cap. Yes, I know it is very dirty ,that's because I dug it out of the dirt. No telling how long it has been there. 20221024_135629.jpg 20221024_135608.jpg

My picture doesn't show the color well, it is a shade of green.

Who can say it doesn't pay to pick up trash lol. This is what I've found so far. I have not looked closely at anymore of it. If I found anything interesting I'll post it. Do you guys see that penny about mid-way on the left? I wonder how long that poor coin has been outside in the elements? 20221024_151202.jpg

1964-D is the most common nickel of all time. There were almost 2 BILLION of those minted. Combine that with the 1964 Philadelphia and there were about 3 BILLION nickels minted that year. They're still floating around in large quantities today. Get a few rolls at the bank and chances are you'll find some!

Lol, it looks like it’s been there since 1964. No telling really but you’re five cents richer. Spend it wisely. :)

That dime is looking a bit proof... Anyone else?

If the dime has mirrored surfaces instead of shiny like normal, take it out of the pile and keep it. It's a proof dime, which is a nice find!

All the other cents are victims of zinc rot. The coin is made mainly of zinc, coated with copper, and zinc is extremely reactive with air and water and dirt, so a few years in the dirt will "rot" the coin and give it those holes. All these are unique but not valuable, except that dime which is really catching my attention!

It's a Zincoln. They can rot that much in weeks.

A racetrack that’s at least a quarter mile long. It’s used to race dragsters, hot rods and muscle cars. Great fun but be prepared for the noise. :)

I honestly never seen such a place. In NYC I only see police cars chase other cars with wanted suspects :(

There was a time back in the late 1960's that you could bet anyone that given 5 nickels randomly drawn out of a cash drawer, 3 would be 1964's.
I never did that but I'd periodically check just for fun.
You would win more often than not.

When I first got drawn into collecting (change searching) it certainly seemed that way. It seemed so unfair to this young boy that 1964 dimes and quarters and halves were so special and hard to find, but 1964 nickels, the ones that were everywhere, were worth only the original five cents...

@paddyman98 it is a "race track" it is a 1/8 of a mile long. We have different brackets that race. From Jr. Dragsters which most top speed is 80 or so mph all the way up to a Dragster that will run ever bit of 200+ mph.
Grudge racing, bracket racing, we do a TNT every Sunday where the local racers do call outs. Their pots gets up to $20,000 and more. I LOVE my job. I love drag racing. I'll take a pic of our strip and post it for you.
And also I'm going to do another thread of a nickel I got in change. My question b4 I post it is, what are the years that full steps are considered rare or collectable?

I can't speak for you but I personally love it. Honestly if you were to go to an event, that is if you like racing, you would enjoy it.

You're absolutely 100% right about the noise.
Some of the cars and trucks are deafening.
Most of my co-workers on the start line have very poor hearing.

I'm not able to see the date on it but I can see it is not a shield cent.
