Hi all , from studying other errors this 1964 nickel has what appears to be a strike trough on the reverse with nail ? I was thinking it might be a fantasy coin. Could someone please tell me what I have here and if I should get it encapsulated ? IMG_1258.JPG IMG_1259.JPG IMG_1260.JPG IMG_1261.JPG IMG_1262.JPG

It's a genuine coin and that's post-mint damage. I can make one of those, just give me a hammer and a small chisel. Why would anyone do that to a coin? Why does the Sun go on shining? Why does the Sea rush to shore?

    Yes that’s a nickel.
    No it’s not worth grading.
    What you see is PMD.
It was damage after it left the mint.
The damage may have occurred in a garage or a basement or anywhere else. Only the person that damaged that poor coin knows for sure.

I think I'd have to agree that it is PMD, but I'm more interested in the E in STATES than the mark above it.

It sure looks like a gouge or chisel mark, but... where did the metal go? I don't see the raised margin(s) I'd expect from a hit that deep.

That's downright creepy, and I'm having trouble imagining how it could've happened at the Mint.

With a very very tiny probe, no doubt.

Looks like PMD also, with those close-up photos.
