Was going through a roll of uncirc 64 D's this afternoon (actually went through 7 coins, only 43 more to go). I noticed what seemed to be an imperfection on the reverse. A little closer inspection showed 2 additional imperfections. This was found on 3 of the coins. The other 4 had none of the imperfections. Please give me an opinion if this is common on this coin or if it is a genuine fault with the die. Will it add any value to the coins? One of the three turned out to be a DDR which you can see in the last shot. I may have to leave these over several posts. The columns on the lower left show some lines. The column on the right has what appears to be a cud but it is identical on all three coins. It is actually a little more pronounced than what the photo shows. On the "E" in States there is a hook almost touching the "S" in States. All 3 coins have the exact same errors. The other 4 have none of these. My apologies if I've gone on too long or posted too many pics... Thanks.

Hi, The lines between the columns are die polish or filing lines. They were cut into the die and when striking the plancett, leaves a raise lines. Common on many of the 60s coins when they used the dies to the very limit. The other mark which is rather C shaped is a die gouge. Same as other, but deeper and leaves a larger raised portion. The piece next to the "E" is a die chip where a little piece of the die chipped off leaving the raised blob. I do not see any doubled die effects on the reverse lettering. The arrows are pointing at small die breaks or deterrioration. All of these are the results of overused dies.

The Mint doesn't send these out rolled. Back then they went to a bank or such in a 5000 cent bag out of a bin from many presses, so an original roll would probably have several different coins as to markers.

If you'll zoom in on the third shot on the original post you should see some doubling on the hook between the e and the s. It is apparent only on this coin, not on the other two with the same errors. I've attached another shot I had with a view of the top left side of the memorial. I think you can see some doubling along the edge. There is some doubling on the lettering on the reverse, I'll try to get some shots of that if you like... Thanks for the reply..

the doubling is flat which would make it Machine/mechanical (sp?) doubling..no value.

Two more shots and an apology for the color change. Neglected to correct the white balance. The ED in United and the S in States shows some doubling as well as the ON in One Cent. You can also see the base of the Memorial a little better as well. Thanks again..
