That's nice to know, does this triple carry a premium beyond the grade value? Also, would this one be worth sending in?
Absolutely! But I don't hunt varieties, so I can't help you. I'm sure Lee can give you a thorough run-down.
I don't normally hunt down varieties either other than Ike dollars and Jefferson nickels. So, I'm not familiar with that for the most part.
Yes, it definitely carries a premium, but how much, I can't say. The CPG lists it at $70 in MS65 (take this with a grain of salt) but the hits on the nose, eyebrow and chin of yours may keep it at MS64 which doesn't seem worthwhile for submitting unless you find that owning the variety is of greater importance to you than the grade for possible resale. Chris
Sort of what I figured as to sending it in. It might just be n ice having the variety but not strong enough condition wise to spend the money for a grade.
I believe the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Show will be in Baltimore in June & November and in Philly in September. If you just want to have the variety certified for your collection, you could at least save yourself part of the shipping and insurance by submitting it at one of these shows. Chris
True, will give it some thought and go from there, perhaps I will stumble across a nicer example between now and one of those shows as well.
Nice find. In a PCGS 64 slab, these have been selling for around $100. If you can get them to 65 it, probably going to be a $250+ coin.
A true collector doesn't need the TPG to hold his hand. And it certainly doesn't make sense to pay the TPG the entire premium to get the premium.
I would fond out exactly "which" die it is and then sell it raw. These DDO Kennedy's are really quite nice varieties but unfortunately, they also have a limited audience that is ONLY seeking high grade examples. IF, I needed it for my collection, I would buy it (as many others have) or have it graded (also as many others have). I don't think you should bother having it graded for resale unless you have other coins which also need grading to minimize some of the "overhead" associated with sending coins in for encapsulation. You could always try putting it up on eBay for $49.95 with free shipping if you're looking to unload it.
