Well I finally got an @dcarr 64d DAM! (Dan VAM) That's what I'm calling the double struck ones. And boy are they killer. A friend recently got his order and he let me trade a regular one for it. Man these are cool. This is the 4th one I've seen posted on the forums and I must say it has the strongest date doubling I've seen from photos. I wonder how many were released and how the market will react to them in the years to come. This one won't be leaving my collection for a very long time if ever @Dave Waterstraat, how does this one compare to yours in hand?
Ok I just found the thread and saw your pics again. Your more minor spread made for some killer looking stars which mine has to some extent but your stars are better due to the closer spread and you have the mini hot lips thing going on which mine doesn't really have but mine has that nice duel neck line. However mine has a killer money shot of the duel 64/64 date. You really can't ask for a more perfect spread on the date than mine. I'd say they even each other out Repost your pics here if you like dave... And anyone else who gets one too, post your pics here to show off and compare spreads
So...... You guys are gonna collaborate, one-day And author a DAM book?? Then have a cult following of dedicated DAM - collectors ?
You know, in all honesty these just don't work for me. I'd prefer if he'd used pristine new planchets, although I suspect they'd be more expensive than worn Morgans if he could get them at all. It's not even the original date that's "overdated," it's the new date. I might think better of the high-grade examples, if cleanly struck. The strike is just that little_bit muddy, especially in the hair details and feathers, and being a Morgan fan it just says "silver round" to me.
I like it because it's different (not to mention cool looking) and I'm guessing rare relative to the normal strikes. I originally ordered 4 and all were normal 2 had some minor host gosting and 2 were damn near perfect. I ordered 3 more hoping for one of these the other day but little did I know a friend would get one and didn't care one way or the other and was willing to swap. And I would much rather have one like this than one similar but showing the host date to this extent although that would be cool too.
It's just a question of opinion. I don't feel any harm is being done by repurposing Morgans which will never be more than bulk metal investments (it's not like we're melting them en masse any longer, and there are millions still extant), but these just don't turn my crank like some of Dan's other work.
That counterfeit is missing one important attribute: A prominent mark stating COPY in accordance with the law.
Show me a genuine 1964-D Morgan for it to be a counterfeit of. For crying out loud, will you people never quit?
No lie, it seriously is bringing down the boards here at CT. No real '64 Morgan's e just, therefore, you can't call it a counterfeit, call it a concept...
On the bright side, they're ensuring he'll never need to spend a penny on advertising. Far more help than I give Carr, in fact, as I haven't bought one of his issues in close to ten years, since the Tesla and Denver Commems.
