This is the largest, thinnest, and most well defined mint mark I've seen on a 1964 quarter. Anything special, or do I need to take a break? Thanks.
Seems thin. But I am sure there are more than 1 type of MM for this year/mint because they made so many coins, they must have used many, many dies. And the MM will be different on different dies.
Keep in mind that until 1990 or so, the mintmark was punched into each die by hand. So, it is not unusual to find variations in the depth of the strike. Of course, the diesinker may have just come off a weekend bender and reported to work with a hefty hangover. Chris
