Are you sure it isn't listed as a "RUT"? It seems that this "BIE" thing is being carried a bit too far, and everyone is just falling into a RUT.

This coin is the Hardy Index 63D-6EH-1 “Page CV”. It is not listed in the Cohen Index and would be a new listing in COC. If you would like to have it listed follow the instructions in this link.

Error collectors started collecting LIBERTY Die Breaks in the 50’s. A number of books have been published. In the 1969 edition of “THE CLASSIFICATION AND VALUE OF ERRORS ON THE LINCOLN CENT” by Jean Cohen lists 880. The “BIE ODDITY COLLECTORS GUILD” published the “BIE Handbook” Edited by Howard O Hardy in 1972 lists over 1600. The Hardy Index System, a schematic method for identifying and classifying Liberty Die Breaks. It was developed by Howard O. Hardy. It can still be applied to LIBERTY Die Breaks on Lincoln Cents today.

2Old, thanks for yet another source. I sent this coin and a BIE to COC this a.m. to see if they would qualify for their list. I used the process you noted above to submit them. Thanks so much for the history of these varieties. I now have six BIE and this one, small collection but a start. I will check out the books you have referenced.

Keep at it my friend! Just because some people don't like them doesn't mean you aren't allowed. Nice coin!

Thanks for the encouragement, I figure with millions of coins and one has a die break, makes it unique.
