I started looking at this 1963 D Franklin some months ago and have driven myself crosseyed. I've scanned it, photo'ed it, louped it. and the more I look at it the more it bothers me. Is this a $10 coin or a $50 coin? If there IS MD on the date, does it add value? then there are those spots that seem to grow every time I look at them. And WHAT THE HECK is the last word on FBL's!!!!!
I have 3 graded 63Ds but I don't understand what is special about this one. It has good eye appeal and is in great uncirculated condition. I would go with $20. as it is not an important date.
Thanky It is not really special yet. And thank you for the knowledge. I think they made about > 60 + million of them this year. This one just bugs me so I showed it here before I considered having it graded, spending it or dumping it towards some lucky picker or dumping it into a pot.
Your coin appears to be uncirculated, but it is not a high grade. I would call it a 63 tops, although the reverse appears like a 63+. It is not FBL - there is significant weakness in the top set of lines. This coin is nowhere near worth getting graded, and is probably worth about $15.
