It appears that this Nickel has doubling in the "Liberty & 1962". It also appears to have doubling on the reverse. The coin is in excellent condition and was wondering if it was worth anything besides a nickel.
Hey @MariaC its late so I’ll give you the short answer. Go check out doubleddie.com and all this will become clear. Reed.
"A doubled die (hub doubling) is caused by a misalignment or a mismatch between a working hub and a working die..." http://www.error-ref.com/doubled-dies/ "This form of doubling typically results from vibration or instability affecting the die, die assembly, or press frame..." http://www.error-ref.com/machine-doubling/
Also known as "Die Chatter". Just think of the dies vibrating as the coin is ejected from the collar and receiving a light tap from the die as it's being born.
