OK, so I just started collecting coins, and I came across this nickel that looks like the full impression of the date was never made. Part of the "6" and "2" in 1962 are missing....... I'm not sure what to make of it, so any opinions would be appreciated.
I had to scan it on a high resolution, then resize and resave in a smaller format.....so these pics are the best I can do right now. However, I've enlarged it enough so that the date should be recognizably visible.

Looks like post mint damage to me... the coin took a hit in that area and flattened out the 6 and the 2. The year I graduated from high school, LOL.

The rim in that area seems to be a bit flattened out almost like it was smashed at some point and seems to have flattened the numbers as well...

looks like it took a little ding from a coin rolling machine.

Yes, I would say PMD as well.
But, welcome to Cointalk! And kudos for posting detailed photos for the coin you're asking about. You'd be surprised how many "I have a goofy looking dime, what's it worth?" type threads there are, without photos.

Thank You everyone for the clarity.....as I said, I just started collecting, and I'm on here to learn and ask questions, so I appreciate any info anyone has to offer.
I'll keep on looking for those defect coins!!!
