Well I think I've found my first truely DDR. Every letter on the reverse is effected. Here's a few shot's. Am I seeing it right?:thumb:
Sweet! Appears to be a WDDR-001 or WDDR-003 can't tell for sure by the pic but price wise they are listed the same. Nice find!:thumb:
Congratulations Congratulations on the find. In the photos it looks to me like real die doubling. It does not look like mechanical (ejection) doubling which would have a shelf-like surface between the two images. Yours seems to have doubled clear and distinct serifs on each of the letters. I'll check my books at home tonight & try to identify if it is a known DDR. Congratulations. Very best regards, Dan Hemperly
I don't know what those #'s are and where they are listed. I ordered the Cherrypicker's guide the other day and should receive it very soon.
This will not be in the Cherrypickers guide. CONECA list like 19 doubled die reverses (DDR) for 1962 business strikes. WDDR-001 stands for Wexler Doubled Die Reverse #1 as listed in 'The Best of the Jefferson Nickel Doubled Die Varieties 2nd Edition' by John Wexler and Brian Rebar. The book only pictures the 2 for 1962, WDDR-001 and WDDR-003 and they are very simular in appearance and you would have to go by die markers to determine which one it is. This book list value as $50 in MS65 on both 1&3 but as with any price guide who knows what someone would acually pay for it. You can look here http://www.conecaonline.org/content/jeffersondoubleddies19621963.html on CONECA's website and find the markers and attributes of the various DD's. WDDR-001 is the same listed as DDR-001 with CONECA.
Congratulations Rockdude! Very nice coin... I didn't think it possible to have so much ddr on a single coin. Is that a 'split serif' on the left corner of the building, too? WOW! jeankay
I always thought that the first doubled die that I did find would be this coin that was run over by a truck, completely ruined except there it was the 'Doubled Die'. So I'm happy.
Rockdude…did you take Nickelman’s advice and try to attribute your nickel using the CONECA listings? From your photos it looks like you have PUP on EPU, USofA, FIVE CENTS, and MONTICELLO…check out dies 8, 10, or 15…can you find a match? Welcome to Die Variety collecting. Now you need to try and find some un-searched rolls on Ebay and find some more dies. Larry Nienaber
un-searched rolls? that's difficult. Got any good sellers? I did look at the site that Nickelman suggested, didn't know there was that many varieties. I was thinking 6. The pictures doesn't show the left side of building.
