I don't know if images on your computer are blurry or you just can't see it, but in the middle of the "D", there is a horizontal line, (maybe tilted to left a little), and it is the remanants of another"D". If you go to the coppercoins.com website, there are probably ten that I can think of that look just like this one. Now, if you can't see that , then I will wait for someone else that does to help me. Now, you may have done this longer than me, but I have gotten to a point where some errors or varities just jump out at me. Not to say that I don't need some help, otherwise I wouldn't be asking you guys, buit this is a RPM. Sorry, I just need help finding out which one. Anyone else want to help? Here is an example of one of these
The lower serif has taken a hit, but it could be 1961D-1MM-022. The location matches dead on. The reason I say could be is that the East is weaker than the 022 on the inside of the mint mark. You might check the markers to see if any match. The hit has distorted the lower serif area on the mint mark. http://coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1961&die_id=1961d1mm022&die_state=lds
So , wait! You are saying this is an RPM? right? I took some clearer pics for all others if there was any doubt.
Looks like the image on coppercoins was taken from the left center. Who ever that was.. The light enhances the RPM better from that angle. I bet he turned it 90 Degrees to the right to get that angle of light. So try reversing your coin 180 and it should show better.
What you are seeing in the middle of the D is a scratch or something else I still don't see any indications of an RPM and if you have to look that hard it;s really not there. Here's your mm with more light on the subject it looks like a small die chip or something else a scratch possible since that area is heaverly bombarded by small little ones, and the field around the MM is not all that great JC
Vertical line, not the horizontal indent. It would be very unlikely for a scratch to reside only inside the MM and in a location of a known DD on a circ. coin. I see what he's talking about.
Here it is The pic above to the left was an example from Coppercoins.com of the possible RPM's this might be.
I get those mixed up sometimes, just like east and west when on the computer, sorry. I am a more hands on guy
A die chip is very possible I still don't see anything the line is not complete with in the MM like the one on coppercoins site possible small die chip. oh I edited again sorry Rocki JC
JC: The upper 2/3 has received a hit making it look distorted. The images of the lower serif is not showing the lower serif well. The best way to get an image of the RPM from 12:00 and just a little hint of light from the S/W Edge to make them show better. I did a second overlay and again it was a dead on match.
Well i just think overlays are really not accurate to determine it for sure I just don't see it I see a possible die chip but whatever your opinion is I respect it .and there's a big differance in the op's MM to make me believe it's not that variety or not a RPM at all just my opinion JOE
