Traveling through a tiny town out in the middle of no where I stopped at an antique store and bought this 1961 Franklin proof for $9. Matter of fact, it was the only coin in the store mixed in with some other silver spoons. I've looked and looked, I've researched and still cant come to a conclusion. Can someone help me determine if this is a doubled die, or worthless doubling? 20160913_142624_HDR.jpg 20160913_142609_HDR.jpg 20160913_142548_HDR.jpg Screenshot_2016-09-13-16-47-52.png Screenshot_2016-09-13-14-26-51.png

The split screen picture is one of a documented doubled die for this particular coin and my $9 coin. The similarities in the two is what makes me think its the real deal.

    1) look at the P.

Nope, not it, and it is a Doubled Die.

I apologize, I'm still fairly new at this....but what am I looking at on the P?

I honestly cannot say but you got a bargain. PF63 is around $15.00 and PF65 is around $28.00. But if a D/D it's around $3,000.00 in PF65. These can be tricky devils with the glare. Best to get a second opinion from a dealer, especially before sending in to have it certified. If that was your intention.

It could be FS-803. Your coin looks very similar to the pics I have of FS-803. There should be some doubling around the eagle and perimeter lettering. Your coin does not appear to show any perimeter letter doubling. The eagle looks like a canidate. FS-801 is the high dollar coin. FS-801 is a no doubter doubled die for a 1961 proof Franklin.

Where can I view a picture of the FS-803?

I wanted to get a picture of this eagle up as I'm toying with sending it to Wexler. But, I wanted to run it by a few experts first. Screenshot_2016-10-15-19-18-49.png
