1961 D penny damage or error

Found a 1961 Denver mint penny, its either an error or damage to be honest not too sure the best way to tell the difference any info on this penny will be greatly appreciated. I know its not PMD because on the reverse side the bottom of I C A in AMERICA are misaligned and spaced where the "crease" is
