going through my wife's late uncle's collection i found some clear plastic tube rolls of uncirculated 1960 small date pennies. other than the obvious size of the date, why are these different? are these pennies more desirable to a collector than their large date counterpart?
Yup -- the "Red Book". They release an updated version each year. However, almost all their prices are waaay liberal, so don't expect your coins to sell on the market for what they say . But, they give at least a ballpark estimate for approximate prices of the coins.
Too bad the prices have kind of lagged the past few years. My guess is they aren't as rare as originally thought.
