    pictures?

sounds like it was made into jewelry, so its value may be really low ( metal value )

Was there just one coin that you found with the ring around it-or is there more? Also-on the reverse side are there two circles (not holes) where something was stuck at one time and then pulled off?

damn... nah that's not it... the penny is silver... and the ring around it is not that big... something like a finger ring with a penny in the middle.... goes around the penny like it was jammed in there... and something was ripped off the back side of the ring.... like it was hanging form something ....

Umm you might want to hurry with those pics because some older coin holders were made of PVC and that really damages coins

Hi concise, and welcome to the forum. In the future please post an inquiry in one, and only one sub-forum. The following is a reply I made to your identical inquiry in a different thread, before discovering that several people had responded in this one.
From your mention of the "D", I'm assuming that you have a U.S. cent from the Philadelphia Mint, not an English or other British Commonwealth country's penny. Either way, I'm sorry to tell you that you don't have a silver anything. The last English silver pennies were minted well over 100 years before 1960, and the only silver-colored U.S. cents ever minted were the 1943 steel-plated zinc ones made when World War II copper shortages were extreme; and possibly some aluminum test coins, which as I recall were reportedly produced in the early '70s.

    >> Click here << to learn how your coin was probably treated to create its silver color.

The "ring" you describe is most likely something like this:

Known as "encased cents" they are of no numismatic value, and the coins themselves (even if otherwise worth something more than face) are considered damaged and worth only face value.

In another post it is stated that there are no silver pennies. So it is probably plated. Is it a ring for your finger or a ring (aka a bezal) to wear on your necklace?

Either way it does not have value.

But I have a question that I'm unable to find on the forum & relates to this coin. Can some one show me an example of a large date vs a small date. The picture in red book is blown up to a point that one can't tell the difference.

Hello, new to this site but adding to the first post about the penny with ring around it, i also have come across one my self. This one as a 1943 penny in it and the ring is about 1/8 wide and looks to be made out of copper. No sign of anthing around it or on it that would have been used for jewelry. Sow one on ebay just like it.

My penny is in much better condition then that.

The 1943 is a steel penny. This is not intended as an insult but many people see a coin that is grey & Assume it's silver. Unless it's a Quarter, dime or 1/2 Dollar prior to 1964, 1935 or older on dollars with a few exceptions in modern as well as a war time Nickel 1942 - 1945 if it doesn't fall into those groups it is not silver.

Now if your penny is 1943 and looks copper it is probably copper plated.
