I could not see anything at all unusal about this coin , not even mechanical doubling. it you did find a doubled die with doubling so close no one could see it without a microscope it would not have any added value anyway , so really I don't bother with them unless they are easily seen with nothing larger than a 10x loupe. EDIT; I forgot to tell you that our proof coins are all struck more than one time to improve the appearance of them and they will naturally look like minor doubled dies to beginning collectors.
I think I can barely see something inside of the 9 and 6 but it is just so minor it would be impossible to say for sure if it was MD or a doubled die coin from a real doubled die. If you find a real doubled die coin that is worth something over regular value it will be easy to see.
I hate to say it but you are 100% correct it is not a ddo coin i think it just that proof struck twice effect.
I think this is the doubled die shot please let me know if i am wrong, look at the top left edge of ERTY and you will see doubling.
I think I can see what you are talking about but it is so minor I can not possibly say for certain what it is. maybe someone else will come along and may be able to see better than me.
I am going to reference the Cherrypickers Guide Fifth Edition Volume two page 294, the TY in LIBERTY if you look at them real close they are actually what i call stacked or layered on top of the primary letter. I have had several coins that were mdd but if you look at TY in TRUST it is the splitting image of page 294 in the book, you will see TY layered on top of the primary letter and you will see the peak of two letters.I have a lot of proof and mint sets to go through from 1950 up to current some have really dirty cellophane that makes it hard to get good photo shots on all the coin.
You are not going to change any minds here at CT. If you are that sure, instead of arguing your case here, send it to a TPG. When it comes back, you can gloat all you want. Of course, in my opinion, there won't be anything to gloat about. Be sure to let us know how you do. PS. There is no "TY" in "TRUST".
Hey rickmp i am not sure that is why i'm trying to tap CT and of course your superior knowledge. The only thing i can go by are graded error coins by ngc or pcgs and the CPG book. I will let you guys know on the graded coins if there is error or not i just need to pick the right ones.
At some point everyone who collects or searches for varieties needs to realize that there are a lot of minor doubled dies, and machine damaged doubling coins (MDD) you will see and discover. There will come a time when you decide what to spend time with and what to discard. It looks like you have a ways to go. Larry Nienaber
I want to thank you for your words of wisdom you are correct i do have a ways to go and thanks for tip about minor double dies.
