1960 proof cent. Large date or small date?

I've got the photos from Coppercoins, but still have trouble discerning the difference. I'm leaning towards large date, but want the opinions of others. Sorry for the poor photography, hard to do proofs with poor lighting, but I think y'all can tell the difference.

I think it is a large date.

    The list I use...

    • The inner loop of the 9 is much smaller on the small date.
    • The upper part of the 6 digit is straight up and down vertically with the outside of the loop on the large date. On the small date, the upper part of the 6 cuts short of being vertically even with the lower loop.
    • The zero is much smaller on the small date.
    • The top of the 1 and 9 digits are horizontally level on the small date. The 9 is taller than the 1 on large date coins.

    I agree. It's a large date.

Also the zero on this coin is very round just like on the large date. And the upper tail of the 6 is long, also like the large date.

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

Large it is! On a SD, the top of the 6 doesn't reach as far to the right as the bottom loop of the 6, NOTICEABLY so. It looks "cut off" in fact. This'n is easy compared to the 70-S.

The SD 1960 looks a little like Lorena Bobbitt got to it. Look it up.

Here is an image to help you determine the difference. 1960-lincoln-cent-small-date-vs-large-date.jpg

It also looks like a LD to me

Not crazy about that photo in post #8. I have that one too.
The small date usually appears much more "closed" and the LD larger and much more "open". And that photo doesn't seem to capture that very well.

Pretty funny. I just happened to be going thru rolls of cents today looking for small and large dates. Even with the photos I find it hard to tell the difference especially where the 9 is supposed to be higher than the 1. Is one coin rarer than the other?

Small date Philly (no mint mark) much harder to find. I have found exactly zero...:banghead:
