1960 penny

    i have surf t the web and found nothing that can tell me any thing about a coin that i have. its a lincon penny dated 1960 . and appears as if it was struck very hard & deep. looks like the copper coating started comeing off and under that looks like silver. i know that they made steel cents in the 40s . did the mint make a steel cent in 1960? i thank ya"ll for any info .

    The cent in 1960 had no silver colored metal underneath the copper - can you post a pic of this coin ?

    Really need a photo if possible. You can always check coins for steel or iron content with a magnet. If the coin jumps to a magnet, it is steel. However, many metals can be made to be a magnet so that is not always a full proof method. (Look Up ALNICO) A super strong magnet that has no iron in it.
    Many coins have had the appearance of over stamping. It is real common with Roosevelt Dimes. Sure would like to see a photo of your coin though.
