I was searching some rolls of pennies from the bank today, and came across this odd looking penny. It's a regular aged penny from 1960, but for some reason, the "1" in the date seems really off. It looks like an "L", or even a "b". Has anyone ever heard about something like this? Oh, and sorry for the pictures, my cell phone's camera isn't too spectacular
Okay. It looks like a clump next to the 1, as in it's still raised. It reminds me of the error in this penny: But, you are much more experienced than I am, so you're probably right. Thanks!
Let me try. I know I have my other camera somewhere in this house... I'll get back to you as soon as I can
Okay, much better! Die chip. Common between letters and numbers where the die is the weakest. As you roll search, you'll fill containers with them, mostly 50's and early 60's. I've kept a handful as examples, the rest got sold off in the rolls.
