1960 penny looks like "L960"?

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by cookiemonster12, Sep 10, 2010.

  1. I was searching some rolls of pennies from the bank today, and came across this odd looking penny. It's a regular aged penny from 1960, but for some reason, the "1" in the date seems really off. It looks like an "L", or even a "b". Has anyone ever heard about something like this? Oh, and sorry for the pictures, my cell phone's camera isn't too spectacular

PMD. It looks like it took a hit. The extra metal may have come from the "9".

  4. Okay. It looks like a clump next to the 1, as in it's still raised. It reminds me of the error in this penny:

Can you get a close up like the BIE photo?

  6. Let me try. I know I have my other camera somewhere in this house...

I'll get back to you as soon as I can

  7. Hm, even with macro on the camera, I still couldn't get a good shot... :(

  8. Ah, here we are, this looks better.

Okay, much better! Die chip. Common between letters and numbers where the die is the weakest. As you roll search, you'll fill containers with them, mostly 50's and early 60's. I've kept a handful as examples, the rest got sold off in the rolls.

  10. Okay, thanks for the help, ikandiggit! :D
