This is the reverse of a 1960 Jefferson nickel. Looks like it was struck through (obviously retained) piece of copper. I noticed a similar thread on here to a fairly similar 1974 nickel --> http://www.cointalk.com/t156021-2/#post1106541

I saw that suggested value for the 1974 was way more than I would have guessed, and probably more than mine, because there is so much design in the fragment of it compared to mine.

    thoughts on this are appreciated.

That's a beauty! Was it a find or a purchase?

I found it roll searching - it was my 98,000th nickel I searched through. So, I guess I bought it for five cents. Still deciding if I should list it or keep it, but am curious what it might be worth.

Personally, I'd keep it but that's just me. I have a few retained struck through coins. I kinda like them because they're so unusual.
