Really can't see a doubled ear.
    I'd say a die chip.

The only doubled ear known that I'm aware of is the 1984 no mint (Philly). It looks like his ear lobe...doubled.
As P&G says, this looks more like a die chip.

Members, please correct me if I'm wrong, or even partially wrong, but a "die chip" is when a die is "chipped" (partially broken) and when used, it causes excess metal to be squeezed into the void caused by the chip.Sometimes a number of coins may be stamped before a mint worker notices and replaces the die.
Since the stamped coins fall into a large bin with other stamped coins, the mint workers don't usually go looking for them, thus they end up in circulation, where they are found by lucky folks like you and the rest of us.
It has no great value, but it's worth keeping, as a "Show and Tell".

BTW, I've looked for years but have never found a 1984 doubled ear, but please don't give up looking. It's the "Thrill of the Hunt" that makes this hobby so much fun.

You may want a refresher, sir. While the most popular and well-known, it's not the only one.

You are most likely correct about that refresher. Which is why I stated "The only doubled ear known that I'm aware of....."

Thanks for the Heads Up. Now I'm obviously aware there are more, even if I don't know what they are yet.

I learn something new every day.

Yes, I realize you were sure to clarify (and wish more folks would follow your lead), but still thought it worth mentioning. There's some debate as to exactly what the so-called 1997 "doubled ear" is, but an 1988 was discovered within the last few years iirc and I believe there's also an 83 (although the mint escapes me). There may be others as well.

I don't know if anyone has suggested this elsewhere, but below is a link to a website that you should find both enlightening and very helpful. Just be sure to spend a couple hours or so exploring the different pages/subjects within, particularly "how dies are made", "doubled dies", and "worthless doubling" as they're likely to address what presently concerns you most. Good luck!
