    That is a 1961 d cent that was damaged by a coin rolling machine.

    How is that possible even? Wouldnt the copper have to be warm enough to be easily malleable?

    Copper's pretty soft. As you search, you'll find a lot of these. Sometimes it's the "L" in Liberty that's affected.

    Copper is naturally malleable and the finger that seals the end of the paper roll is steel , much harder than copper.
