Hello everyone! I'm new to coin collecting. I came across this one penny. Wondering if it was some kind of error. Knowing my luck it's probably just melted. But I have no clue. It's the size of a dime. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you! back view.jpg front view.jpg

You're right about your luck. The coin was damaged after it left the mint. Someone pounded down the edges. That's why it's a smaller than a regular cent. WWII servicemen would to use a spoon to tap the edges of a silver half dollar to make rings (some people still do this). Once it was the right diameter the would drill the center.

I'm not so sure about this one. Perhaps @paddyman98 will chime in with more information. I do not believe this has been spooned.

By the way @coinednikki , welcome to the neighborhood! Nice photos. I like your hat!

Thanks for the quick respond! I figured something like that. But with all these errors I've heard about, I just didn't know. But I am still going to keep it. I like it for some reason.

I've tried looking up different errors, but nothing like this has popped up yet. And thank you!

I never saw a coin look like that before. I am also wondering what happened to it. Someone might know.

Thanks. I only have one. It's probably worth less than a penny, but I like though.

I'll see if I can hunt down some pictures of mine when I can get loose.

@paddyman98, that explanation on that webpage isn't what she's talking about. I'd thought a dryer on ours; at least, at first. I'm not swallowing it, though; at least, not yet.

Yep.. You are right. That's why added the Dryer Coin.
That one is more likely to be what she has!

I can't find pictures of ours. I'll get the coins out and scan them in the next few days, I want to know what this is.
