196? D Mint Penny

    Not if its 1961 or 1967. Looks like a possible strike error since the overall condition of the coin isnt to bad. I found. It interesting.

    I'd say 1961. Struck with a grease filled die. Common and no extra value.

    Nevermind found a very faint 1. Still a cool penny considering the #1 in 1961 can barely be seen.

    I think I see the seven in their. And as the other members like to refer to it is a grease fill die.:blackalien: Not a seven a one. The other photo help

    It's not a strike error. It is the result of a grease-filled die. Grease and debris will accumulate in the recess and become compacted from repeated strikes. Eventually, it can become almost as hard as steel if it remains in the recess long enough.

    In the case of the coin you presented, the last digit has disappeared on the die, and it is only speculation which digit, 0-9, it could be.

    My guess is 1961, but either way, cool coin and definitely a keeper!

    Can't be a 67, remember no mintmarks that year.
