how do you tell the difference if you dont mind me asking. does it look like a shiny gun metal color? Is there an easier way of telling the difference
There are no “black beauties” among nickels. They are called corroded. There can be “blue beauties,” but for me it’s a narrow qualification. Full luster under the toning, no spots and great eye appeal.
If you can judge the mint luster, and it is still dark, then you might have something. If it is well circulated and toned then Nope. There is a big correlation between an altered surfaces AU coin and a dark original mint luster, they are easily confused. Just something to think about.
