I have a 1959 double die obverse quarter that is currently graded a proof 68 deep cameo. I had an identical one which I sold, but it in fact had no cameo surfaces. I have taken this to a few prominent dealers, and they believe the grade would be a proof-66-67 and at least a cameo. NGC has graded 5 of these, and none have a cameo designation. I can't find a single sale of this coin, so I have no way to estimate it's value. I have checked ebay, and heritage auctions. I do of course plan to get it slabbed by anacs. Any ideas on how to price this when I get it back? I'm going to assume anacs will give it a 66 cameo designation.
Post some photo....I will say that ANACS will be harder on the CAMEO I think then most places....PCGS seems to grade lots of coins CAMEO. The value....name your price ....just kidding....I think the best way would to be to put it in an auction...not ebay...but one like Heritage and let it go. They will get a cut but they also should be able to find somekind of value for you. Speedy
Hi speedy, I'd post some photos, but it is in a slab, and my scanner won't show detail through the plastic. The dealers I talked to, seemed to think pcgs would give it a deep cameo designation, but they said PCGS would not do die attribution. They seemed to think Anacs would definitely give it a cameo designation, and they said in the interest of selling it to have it reslabbed. So that is what I will do. When I submit my coin to anacs, should I include six dollars for attribution research?
Nope---just in the space for the Variety put "FS-022.45" and add $1....sometimes they don't charge for such but I think in this case they would--if that # is wrong then they just won't put anything...then you will either have to pay the $6 or find it yourself and have it sent in again with $1....sometimes its just as easy to send in $6 but as long as you are sure that FS-022.45 is right....then just send in $1 I think PCGS does do some die attribution but I'm not sure what ones...
