Hi, I recently aquired a coin, graded by PCI, that is labeled as a 1959 deep cameo proof 68 double die obverse washington quarter. If it is worth something I plan to sell it to buy books for school. If anyone could give me an indication of a ballpark figure that would be great.
my guess would be around 60-90. 100 if your lucky. PCI is up there in the graysheets, but they are not the best.
I would say (I can't see the back so I can't give a grade for sure) but that coin is over graded...PCI in the newer holders seem to overgrade by 1 to 2 points. Speedy
Thanks for the info. I found a site (www.pcgs.com), that says an pr-68 is worth 1500, and even if it grades 3 grades lower (pr-65). Although, I'll have to see what I end up getting for it.
Don't go by PCGS price guide...it will make you think you will get much more than you will....that is way more than its worth. Speedy
I gave the coin to my Dad who got pcgs to cross grade it, and it did in fact come back as a pr-68 dc double die obverse. It has some strong doubling on the motto, and on the date and liberty. The problem is, neither of us can find any reference to a 1959 double die variety. I looked in Breen's and a few others and couldn't find any other references. Any advice on where to look?
I hope you know that it is rare that PCGS would cross over a PCI coin at the same grade....I have never heard of that happing... As for looking about coin....keep trying ebay...and Heritage....you might can email people at Heritage-- Speedy
I had 3 other coins cross graded and they all came back 2-3 grades lower : ( I don't like PCI very much, but I was pleased with the quarter.
PCI can be great but you must know how to grade to be able to use them almost...I have heard that they are good on finding fake coins...so I guess if you had a coin you wanted to know if it was real or not and didn't want to pay as much as NGC or PCGS they would be alright...also they are alot faster than PCGS or NGC.
