    Hello Everyone ,

    Sorry that I'm back...

I just wanted to ask you guys something...

I have a 1959 cent but it has a reeded edge , I'm going to post a picture of that penny tomorrow . My question is... '' Is my penny worth anything ? '' .

It's just a normal 1959 penny , but it has a reeded edge . ( When I said '' normal '' , I was trying to say that it looks like a normal 1959 cent , the color is the same , the size is the same , etc. , but its edge is reeded ) .

I might post a picture of it in about 5 or 6 hours , if not , I'll post a picture of it tomorrow .

    Sincerely , Porsche2007

I am not sure what could cause that aside from someone doing that to the coin after it was released into circulation, thus making it a curious conversation piece, but alas, a damaged coin. But I'll let our resident experts take a guess on it because I am merely speculating here.

Please post a picture, because that'll help tremendously.

Odd.... I can't think of what could have done that at the mint. And you said it's the same size across EXACTLY as a normal cent? Because if so, I'd have to guess it's damage done after the coin was put into circulation.

    Oh well...

Yes , it's EXACTLY the same size that a normal cent is . So , are you saying that it's 100% for sure that it was damage done after the coin was put into circulation , because it looks very real to me .

    Oh well . . .

I'm not saying anything 100% for sure, because I don't have that much experience with "oddity" coins (decided to try out the new definition!). But if I had to guess, I would guess that it's damage. Wait a little bit for some of these other guys to post in here, because they'll probably have a much better idea.

I've never heard of such a thing, but that's no proof of it's lack of existance. It could be real, but I doubt it. I've been trying to figure out how it could have gained a reeded edge at the mint and I can't come up with any possibilities.

I know have read about these somewhere - danged if I can find it right now though  Bottom line is that this is an after mint alteration. If I remember correctly there was a group of these coins that surfaced back in the '60s and created quite a stir. But it was soon discovered to be a hoax.

    Hello

I like the others do not know if it is real or not. However I can tell you that it is easly done on a lath with a knurling tool.http://www.technologystudent.com/equip1/knurl1.htm It consits of two wheels that impart anything from reading to diamond patherns on the surface of the metal in the lath. This is normaly used for grips on tools. Hope this helps.
