Hey everyone. I found this penny today while searching through rolls. It is the obverse shell of a 1959 penny. Is it fake or did someone de-shell it? The inside does not look like copper. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

It looks like half of a magician's coin. Search the threads for countless examples and explanations of how they are made.

My first impression was a blank planchet, but that makes no sense since the obverse was struck perfectly. My conclusion is "Altered Surfaces" (Possibly from being one of the obverse halves of a magicians coin, as Hobo already seems to have mentioned). Sorry. :(

What is the thickness of the coin? Can you post a pic of the edge?

Thanks guys. That is exactly what it is. I wasn't thinking it was worth anything. I just thought it was weird being in a bank roll. And to coinmaster1, the thickness is the same as a penny, just hollowed out. It is made so a dime can fit inside it. Thanks again for the information.
