    • I was wondering about this 58d were the mint mark is located I'm thinking the mint mark is for sure in the wrong place on this coin Way to close to the 9 and 5 just My opinion.

    Mint marks were hand punched back then, so depending upon how good a day a mint tech was having, or how bad a hangover he had, the placements of the mint marks were in all sorts of positions. High, low, left, right, tilted, etc. This is normal for the times.

    Thanks I guess you are right all about how steady that hand was right I knew they were hand punched but they get carried away with some of them I got some old wheat pennies put up now that have the mint mark in the date

    In 1958 all mint marks were hand stamped so not always in the same place. This is close enough to be fine and not considered unusual.
