1958-P doubled die?

    If you found a real 1958 Doubled Die Obverse you'd know about it right away and there would be no doubt. This is what the doubling on the real deal looks like (picture from PCGS CoinFacts):

    Wow, that doubling is nicer than the 72, almost looks like a 55.

    If you look at the Y in liberty, you can see the doubling. My coins not that good of a grade.

    Because it wasn't necessary?

    Regardless of condition, Tim, your coin is not of the shown variety.

    It actually looks like the Y in LIBERTY and the date are the most unlikely areas to see the doubling.
