Newbie coin collector here. Looking for opinions on this recent find. The 9 and 5 in the date appear to be DD error. I cant seem to find an error # that quite looks like this one on searches so far. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
On the date, that is machine damage by die movement during the strike. It damaged part of that area on your coin. Here is an image of that DDO everyone wants to find. (only two known to exist) No,this isn't my coin. Note the hub doubling is not on the date. LIBERTY and the Motto is the only areas affected.
Thanks for the info. What kind of value would I put on a machine effect on this coin? What is the error # associated. Looking around on ebay they mentioned quite a few different types of errors on this year of coin. #17, #15, #3, etc....
To me nothing as it is common on several years. Most of the time when people buy them off eBay are really mad they were sold a machine damaged coin and it was not worth what they paid for it. They are really upset. So rather than sell them, I save the most extreme ones in a tube in case I need more educational images for a question asked.
Did someone else post a link showing the 8 different types of double die coins in another discussion?
