I broke open a roll of BU wheaties and found this error. I first noticed that there was a die fill or chip in the top of the 8. Then I looked at the mintmark and it appeared to be a RPM error. Based on the scan, it appears to have the 'P' mintmark overstruck by a 'D'.
I know it's not dirt or anything like that, this coin is uncirculated gem mint and has never been handled by bare hands. It was machine wrapped in 1959 and would probably grade ms67RD. I have a hard time getting a more detailed picture than the one I posted. I'm only using a 1200dpi scanner and I don't have a loupe. It obviously can't be a P because there isn't a P mintmark for cents. I'm guessing it could be a rotated mintmark, possibly an S. Even though there wasn't an S mark for that year, it could be some kind of overdate since date looks a little strange. I have never heard of an overdate lincoln before, but there is a first time for anything.
It looks to be an RPM. I have no idea which one of the twenty-two listed D/D RPM's it might be. It's certainly not a D/P variety, since cents have never carried a P-mintmark.
