    Hi guys,

I have this 1958 D Lincoln Wheat Penny and would like to know why the date and words LIBERTY are so thick? Is this due to Machine Doubling or wear? It looks very funny to see this as I do not come across thickness like this often.

    The coins' surface is damaged/altered
by it being either a 'dryer' coin, or
    something very similar.

The lettering is doubled, it's flattened
from the damage to the coins' surface

Environmental damage of some type or perhaps maybe even chemical damage on the reverse. The obverse looks like just wear and tear from years of circulation.
