This is about the funniest thing I've seen on a circulated coin. There was apparently a die crack through the left wing (right side of the coin) of the eagle. Essentially, it looks like someone decided to shoot an arrow through the joint in the wing. I'm not positive, but it seems to go all the way to the "S" in "STATES" through the outside of the wing.
I don't think it is a die crack. It looks like a die gouge. Note that it doesn't extend through the letters "US" in PLURIBUS which suggests that it is across the surface of the die. A die crack would go right through the letters. Chris
That makes sense. I was trying to figure out why the wing and letters were higher than the "crud" left behind.
