Need some help deciding which RPM this 1957d is. Looking at Varity Vista but unable to figure out. Any help appreciated.
Sorry, I didnt mean to hijack your thread. There are 2. I was outside when i took these pics. Not great. Im trying to learn as much about photos that I can. It makes you really appreciate the nice clean photos some of you guys put up here. I think i tend to want to shiw angles and forget the most important part. When I look thru a loupe thats the 1st thing I do is look straight down, then adjust accordingly for fine detail
Looks most like -002, BUT.... When I look at it and the date the bright lighting casting the darker areas around all of the numbers as well as the MM, makes it very difficult to tell what is a repunch ( if any) and what is lighting problems. Here is a 1955 S/S/S Rpm-001, and the light was reduced ( easy as I do not use USB microscope) to emphasize the surface, but enough to show detail. Use a magnifier and check it out also in outdoor light or some diffuse light source to see if it looks different.. Jim
In the double squeeze era like these coins, you have to be certain there is no mechanical doubling on the coin overall such as checking the date and devices, as often it can cause splits serifs in both , The lighting needs to allow looking at other areas also, IMO,Jim
if you are outside and it is bright, use a white piece of paper to create some diffusion and minimize direct lighting (which causes all the reflections, hot spots on letters/numbers/etc, heavy shadows, etc.). If you have an old shower curtain cut out pieces, use a box top, cut it out and glue/staple the shower curtain on it to create a diffuser panel that you can easily hold. Can layer it too. Easy to hand hold and i bright light a great time shaver to make pretty good images once you get the hang of it.
