Below lincolns chin is a perfect Circular puncture wound, also on the back the T in cent is muffled.

So I was curious if this wheat penny has a machine error or did someone try to tamper with it ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

To me it looks like someone used some kind of a hole tap and hit it with a hammer. The damage on the back I am guessing corresponds to the damage on the obverse as one would expect. I would be interested to hear what some of the more experience members have to say though.

It looks like PMD to me! As @Electron John said, the punched area on the obverse corresponds to the smashed area on the reverse.

I will say Post Mint Damage. It does look like it has been hit with a hole punch.

    It's not an error.
