    Hi guys,

I have this 1957 D Lincoln Wheat Penny and see that there are doubled lines running down Lincoln's entire face to the bottom of his chin. Is this machine doubling or a true doubled die on his face?

I have yet to see this type of profile doubling on wheat cents but have seen plenty from 1959 to 1964 . Not a doubled die though, sorry to say.

Very common on Memorial Cents to date but I don't see a lot of profile Doubling on Wheat Cents, like @tommyc03 said. I think it's a nice example and worthy of keeping but your not going to retire on it.

Yes, it's common on wheats too,
    especially 1957-D cents.

While "push doubling" that Kevin mentioned is certainly a possibility, I would vote for DDD, as I've seen this same effect on Buffalo nickels and cents, where no other areas are affected, just the head. The die wears quickly in the larger surface areas such as the portrait device. Just my thoughts.

It's from the strike, not the die. Strike doubling can occur anywhere on the coin.
