Hi I posted this thread under the World and Ancient Coins Forum but had no response. Maybe I can get one by reposting in the Error Coin Forum....About 2 weeks ago I found this item while out metal detecting at a NYC beach. It seems to be just the obverse layer of an Argentina 1957 Peso missing the core and the reverse side. Could this be an actual coin and how could this have occurred? There seems to be a bit of soldering at 7:00 shown in picture #001 - pictures #004 and #005 are from the web and how it's supposed to look like. The coin is silver in color I just had bad lighting while taking my pics so the coin looks golden. Thanks!
Oh it's definitely not a candy coin wrapper. I get those chocolate coins all the time and those are made of foil. This is an actual solid obverse shell missing the core and the reverse.
these coins may be copper plated like our US cents and if they are the zinc core may have rotted away leaving only the copper. the US cents will do this with a little encouragement and probably naturally if left out in nature for a long time.
Great thanks for that info! I was surprised when I found it. Especially when the last country I visited was Argentina.
