the T and E match the cherrypickers guide pics. the T has the same lump at the bottom left, and the E the same humps as the pics in the book.
Thanks Riff. Your first pic, I still cannot tell, but you second pic looks promising. On your example pic up top, look at the "dot" on the left side of the E. Notice how it is not round, but more oval. The 48 and 59 DDR have this characteristic. On your pics, I am not seeing that. You are the only one who has a good look at it and can tell me. In the cherry pickers book, this characteristic is very prominent. Let me know what you see.
no. its more rounded. that is the only difference. there is moderate separation on EPU, and everything else looks exactly the same.
Hmmm, I don't know what to tell you. Whenever I come across coins of typical varieties that I am unsure of, I always put them aside so I can periodically look at them later. For years I was convinced I had a 1960 DDR Franklin. Every so often I would look at it and each time I was less and less convinced that I had one.....that was until I actually saw one, then I realized that I definitely didn't have one. Sometimes it just takes time to see these things.
I've only seen one of these in hand myself, and I can't remember which slab it was in. Riff, I'd say your's is very close, but it's mighty hard to say yes for certain from your pics.
i know. i spent 400 on a camera that im really unhappy with. i should have spent a couple more and got a high end camera.
Hey Riff, last night I just bought a digital scope. Total cost including shipping was $38! The scope is from China, but for $38 it was worth the risk. I can't wait to get it and I hope it gives me pics as they advertise. Because you like varieties, maybe you should look into this as your next purchase. Sure beats a $100 digital scope. http://www.ebay.com/itm/271043264176?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Don't start talking about scopes again, theres at least 5 threads for that...lol As for the coin....I don't know what to tell ya, but I SURELY see some sort of doubling there. Great EYE!
The '56 001 is supposed to have some doubling on the bell clapper too. Do you see anything there Riff?
no. its not 001. it has thickening just like it and EPU is doubled just like it. the eagle has doubling along the wing tips and tip of beak. notice the difference between the E in united , and the Es in states and america.
im pretty sure i figured it out! i believe this to be ddr-004. the obverse is ddo-008. http://www.varietyvista.com/Variety Master Listings/franklin doubled dies 1948-1956.htm#_1956_4 note the light die scratches on the bell hanger, the really thick liberty, and the slight die gouge on the vertical upright of the D in GOD. if im right, this is really cool! a ddo/ddr! i am going to send it in to varitety vista to have it attributed.
