was it the 50s that produced a bunch of errors? the 1956 d has the d uo too close, and the 1957 is self explanatory. threw in this 1857 eagle, clashed with seated 50c?
The 1857 FE cent is MAD-003 or FS-01-1857-402 (003). the '56 mint mark is considered within specs of it does not infringe upon a number in the date, the rim, or the coat. A lot of space to put in a mm, so it is close, but no variety, The filled areas of the 1957 date appear to be from deteriorration of the working die. Common and no real increase in value. Welcome to the Forum!! There is nice history as to the clash between the FE ( your example) and the Liberty seated 50 cent piece. By the way there are also similar clashes with 57 FE and Liberty $20 double eagle, and 57 FE with the 25 cent seated liberty. jim
Here is one on eBay similar in grade, maybe a bit better, but watch it and see what the ending price is. It has a spot of maybe PVC on the back, but should be removable. You didn't post a photo of the reverse of yours. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1857-Obv-Clashed-Die-FS-402-Snow-9-Flying-Eagle-Cent-VF-0PUO-/370608414502?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item5649fb9f26 I wouldn't think you would need to have it slabbed. I would place in the $100- 150 range and most everyone who would be interested would know what it was. These are not uncommon in this grade. but are in higher grades. Indiancents.com ( Rick Snow's site) has a PCGS MS-65 for 12,500 available. If I was interested in another one like the eBay one, I would begin offer @115-120 as I see them recently at that price. Jim
