Back on Jan. 27th I posted a thread on 2 - 1955 s/s/s/ cents that I had sent in for grading by NGC. Well they are back and the winners are -
The mintmarks were punched by hand back then, and the S/S/S means it's an " S over S over S, punched 3 times....... Also called an RPM or Re-punched mintmark. Others are called OMM's, Over mintmark , like a 1944D/S, where the D was punched over the S. Many people collect these varietys........some of them are really scarce and command quite a premium
My unlce has a Hinkley and Schmidt water bottle I think its around a 5 gal. It is filled up to neck with pennies. I have been looking at that thing since I was a kid. Its got to be over 30 years old. I know it only have cents in there.....Wonder if I should make him an offer. At least this way Im saving him from having to go to the bank...........
Even if I do get them.....im still really new to the whole cent side of things....It would take me about a year to go throught the whole thing looking for the different varieties that are out there......maybe longer
JIm, were they graded and did they any prices attached. I am haveing no luck on pinning down a value on these coins.
OCO, I will look at the next show for Mike and talk to him. He is the one that has them. none of them have been graded by a TPG and I dont believe he has them up for sale at this point but I am sure he has a handle on value. There was a small write up about one of them in this past weeks Coinworld actually by Ken Potter.
I was told today that he thinks... around 500.00 for them. Thats just his opinion though. He hasnt sold any nor are his slabbed.
1955 s/s/s $500 sounds pretty good but for now I am hanging on to them. Thanks for checking this out.
