I am still missing a 19XX-D MS-67 from my set. They really are not that common. There are only 62 of them, or was only 62. Someone just posted a 19XX-S MS-67 slab, but the coin is a 19XX-D. NGC verifies that slab number as a 19XX-S. I believe that NGC fixes that for free or just shipping at worst, but are there any other pitfalls possible? i.e., if I would win it, is there a possibility I would not wind up with a 19XX-D MS-67 for no more than my shipping?
Have you asked the seller if he is indeed selling the exact coin in the picture ? If he is, and you win, then I'd say you get the coin you want. But it's still going to cost you whatever your bid is, plus the shipping to fix the slab of course. I figure that's what you meant anyway.
eBay now has 2 requirement. "Coins certified before 1980 must show the full front and back of the holder." and "listings for certified coins must include an image of the item, showing the coin in its graded holder." And the seller states "PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A 19XX-D CENT THAT IS IN A 19XX-S HOLDER." That I can factor into my bid. What I cannot factor in is if NGC decides that this coin should really be a 19XX-D MS-66 (or 65?). The pic looks like is is probably 67, but it is an eBay pic.
To my knowledge they will not do that on a fix the label error request. They will merely re-slab the coin with a corrected label at the same grade.
Just spoke to NGC. As courteous and friendly as could be expected. They are sending me a form to resubmit the coin. Their mistake. They pay shipping both ways.
It was not as cheap as I had hoped, but I probably got it 30 - 50% below the going rate. I could not figure how to get NGC to pay for my shipping, so I just sent it priority and paid for it. Aside from that, all was free. BTW, that is not a spot in the middle of "CENT". It is a light rub/hit that photographs weird.
Glad to see that everything worked out to your satisfaction. If you approach these problems with a calm and collected head, you will find that these grading services will accommodate your legitimate requests. Happy Collecting
Nice find. Are those contact marks on the jacket? I'm just asking because I'm trying to figure out what's acceptable for 67 as far as contact marks go.
I think most of what you are seeing are the remnants of planchet flaws, but they are so small I cannot tell for sure what they are. BTW, BR549, I have had nothing but pleasant conversations with NGC. Now, it is only for 2 occurrences that I have had to call, but I could not ask for any more pleasant communications.
