1955 Lincoln Wheat penny-Obverse Die Deterioration or what?

    Hi guys,

    I have this 1955 Lincoln Wheat penny and was wondering what is happening with the obverse outer details on this coin. The "I" in Liberty and "IN" are almost gone, the "5" in 1955 is distorted and the "R" and "UST" in Trust in are really thick..

    Also would like to know if the flat piece of metal on Lincoln's jacket near his bow tie a die chip (see close up photo #2)

    Die Deterioration. Note how the field curves up to meet the edge.
    I see a contact/hit mark left of the bow tie.
