I bought a 1955 franklin for 20 bucks off my dealer. Its a key date of course so I wanted it. But now my dilemma is should i get it graded. Its a high end 58 with great eye appeal. I have never submitted any of my coins before, so I'm not sure if I should. Then again this is the only key date I believe I own. I have quite a few I would like to have graded, but I am just nervous about sending them by mail. Any advice here as well?
Even though it has a low mintage its still an AU58. I would not submit the coin. You'll never get the money that it cost to do the submission back. Also if you submit it to NGC the most affordable way to do it is in the econmey class and you have to submit a min of five coins in that tier.
If it's AU, it's not worth slabbing, as the submission expense would be more than what you paid for it, and it's value will not increase for an AU Franklin. Unless it will grade 65+ with FBL, it's not worth that expense.
d-Man I take good AU coins and make a year set with other AU or better coins and place in plastic year set holder. this makes all the coins value increase a little. I have this set BU because it is my birth year. its is hard to find a good 1955 set for under $65.00 Just a suggestion. Big Ed
