Greetings - just picked up a 1955 Lincoln 1¢ Double Die, and would like to hear some feedback on its condition. edited I've added 3 photos, but I'm new to this and it may not come through - please let me know if you need photos emailed to yu - Thanks, Russ
First of all congrats on very nice pick up and as for the grade I think I see rub on the cheek and the lapel so I'd say AU58 but I cant be for certain.
Without better pics I cannot be certain but there appears to be wear on Lincoln's hair above and behind the ear and also on the wheatstalks! I do not see any wear on Lincoln's cheek, beard, forehead, shoulder and the remainder of the hairlines but there are some contact marks on the Lincoln's cheek apparently from contact with other coins. I would also rate the coin at AU-58 and yes, AU-58 in this Error coin is fairly good, like $1,000 good upwards to $1,200 good! Your's still has enough Red left in the color that when graded by a Grading Service such as PCGS, they may grade it AU-58 Red (Red being the most desirable color of a Lincoln Cent). Otherwise, they may grade it AU-58 RB (Red/Brown). Nice coin and good luck! There are many folks on Coin Talk that will envy your acquisition (me included)! Frank
I'm confused - if you just got it - why would you want to sell it ? Anyway, the easiest way to sell a coin is to take it to a coin dealer and sell it. You could also offer the coin on ebay or some other auction service.
1955 Double Die I want to sell this coin because I just won it in a poker game froam a friend of mine - Tim McGraw, Country music star - and I have no idea of what it's worth - the bet was for $1500. but I hope it's woth more than that - please let me know what you think, and how I should proceed to sell it - Thanks, Russ
Here is an example of one that sold on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/1955-55-Lincoln...6QQihZ001QQcategoryZ39457QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Howdy - I just saw your last post, and I must say that my coin is in FAR BETER conition than the one on ebay - and I know that this is a valuable coin, so my questions still remains... wherer should i sell it????? i would like to become a collector - only because I've got quire a few of good ones, but it's really not my bag... any info would be helpful Thanks, Russ...
I already told you - take it to a coin dealer. You can look one up in the local phone book. Or, if you care to tell us in what city you live, we could recommend one in that town.
Hi, A piece of friendly advice,,,,this is one of the most counterfeited collectible cents there is. I can't tell if this one is legit by the pictures as some of the fakes are excellent. You definitely need to have the coin authenticated by a pro.
There are two faint die scratches that created slight raised lines on the inside uppr left of the T in CENT. That is about the only way to check if it's real. They are die markers that should be visible on a coin of this condition. If the "die markers" are not present, the coin would not be real. You need someone who is an expert on varieties to look at the coin to authenticate it. Your "local dealer" will likely not be able to do it.
If you take the coin to a Coin Dealer and try to sell it, realize that the Dealer cannot give you the full value of the coin since they have to make something on the coin! You can try to sell it on eBay raw (Ungraded & Uncertified) but you will need to have great closeup pictures in the auction! The best bet would be to have a Coin Dealer send the coin into PCGS for grading and certification then sell it on eBay once it comes back. A graded and certified 1955-P Doubled Die Cent will almost always bring a premium over the same coin sold raw on eBay! Frank
